The Lake of Fire and The Kingdom of Light...Of Hell and Heaven.

Stop me when you've heard this before: "Hell is a place where God sends people, who did not accept Jesus as Lord, to be tortured for all of eternity by a creature called Satan" or "There is no hell, because there is no God or Satan." Unfortunately, no one truly knows if hell exists until we die, right? Now, if you dispute that, please offer me some proof, other than the words of the Bible, that shows that hell is real. OK, so you can't. I understand. It's much like believing in God in that it's mostly about feeling and faith. The major difference being, for me anyways, I see proof of God's existence everyday. The sun, the wind, the crisp autumn air on a football Saturday, the absolute perfection in design that is the Earth and all of it's inhabitants. So, where would be proof that a hell exists? Evil? Sins? The denial of God? I think these things may prove that the is a Satan, but not necessarily a hell. Stay with me here, this is going to get interesting!

When looking at duality and how everything has to have an opposite, it's easy to assume that there is a counter to God. I don't disagree on this point. God created a great and wonderful world for us. He gave us free will and, ultimately, the ability to make decisions based on what we want and feel. Think about this. What would be the challenge if God was the only thing for us to be influenced by? It's easy to make good decisions when no negative outcome is possible right? How could you come to know God on a personal level if you couldn't understand what The Light is all about? God is love. God is Light. God is everything wonderful and graceful. If those things were all that penetrated our minds, then how could we honestly come to know God fully? You have to have options in a free will world. I have to have the choice to be good in order for it to mean anything. See how that works? Let's look at a basic example: I have the choice when I get off work to do many things. I could come straight home and be with my family. I could go to the bar and drink myself into a stupor. I could find another woman to commit adultery with, etc... Obviously, I choose number one, because it's what I want and it's the right thing. Some people don't though. This is what makes us who we are. The decisions WE make on our own accord. I do think that God will intervene in some circumstances, when prayer and communication influences our decisions and actions.

Now, I admit that I believe in Satan. There is so much evil that I feel in my inner core that something is responsible for it, not just humans, but something more insidious and darker. I've seen and been exposed to some paranormal events in my life, with people there to back up my experiences. I believe in a hell, in the sense that there is a place where Satan dwells. I have a difference in opinion, however, in contrast to what most Christians believe about hell: It's not a place of eternal damnation. Look, I know this isn't going to be a popular idea, especially with my family, but it's my thoughts and feelings on the matter. Most Christians, and some other religions, believe that there is a place where people who deny their God are eternally punished. I feel that my God transcends this ideology. My God is the God of flowing grace and mercy, undying love and patience. With the limited resources we have here on Earth, and the abundance of outlets for sin and such, it seems very unlikely that God would have expected us to be able to easily follow him. This is what makes it special when we come to God and have that relationship with him. In contrast, I think the same points make it unlikely that God would punish people to everlasting torture for not putting two and two together. Where my grey area is, people who knowingly and purposely commit atrocities, with pure darkness in heart. Maybe there is a place for those types, but I don't think people who simply do not read or believe the Bible, or live in denial, burn for all of eternity. It just doesn't compute in my head. If you look at most religions, you see that there is always a control mechanism, and it is almost always fear. Fear of punishment. Fear of pain and torture. Why? They cannot keep people living and doing what they say without control, right? This is archaic. This is such a primitive way of thinking, but it's been the way since the dawn of religion.

I've been challenging myself to break the chains of conventional Christian thinking. I've tried to stop listening to what other PEOPLE tell me about God, the Bible, and how and what we are suppose to do in life. I've done my best to elevate my thought to just God alone, not religion and what people have done to the idea of God. Remove religion. Remove preconceived notions. Remove the hate and bitterness for our fellow man that religions creates: Other religions, homosexuals, atheists and etc... Just God. Only God. My relationship with my Maker is the most important thing to me. I know I argue with other Christians a lot, and it's not because I don't love them or respect their opinions. It's because I feel that so many people are apathetic about their relationship with God. Unchain God from the ideas that others have spoon fed us. The ultimate way to defeat Satan is to deny him the opportunity to deceive and confuse others, by showing people the Light our Creator has given us.

If you believe the Bible is correct, in that we are damned if we deny Jesus as the savior, and will be banished to eternal torture, that's fine. Everybody has their own beliefs, these are just mine. Maybe those who deny, do end up in that situation. Maybe they end up nowhere, in a state of permanent darkness. Maybe everyone sees the gates of Heaven and the mighty mercy of God. We truly don't know until we die.

Until then, I hope to see you all in the everlasting light that is God's presence.

  1. Interesting thought. I think this is a thought that everyone would want to believe. A world where everyone goes to heaven and Satan goes to hell. When you think of everyone has a reason for the bad things they do. It's ether anger or lust that drive us to most temptations in our life. A murderer might have had a bad childhood and a life of things not turning out how he expected they should combining with anger over something that happened and his inability to let it go might drive him to do something someone else considers unthinkable. We can justify anything giving the time and circumstances. This kind of thinking can give you a heart for the murderer, the thief and possibly even the rapist. So when you think of it this way, why shouldn’t everyone go to heaven?
My main problem with the thought is my own human views and thinking.
My views and opinions on things in my life are derived from my own past experiences and thoughts. How can I even begin reason how God would do something or what God thinks? This is why I hate it when people say if I were God I would do it this way.
Think of your life and the extremes of opinion you can have. The view you had of life when you were single. The view you have when you got married, and now that you’re a father and husband. How much has your views and opinions have changed just in the past 5 years.
Now try to picture how a God who has lived a lifetime that time can’t contain. Picture how a perfect all knowing God who had created everything we see perception of this world. It’s impossible on so many levels. We can’t begin to comprehend it so what makes us even think that we can even question what God would to with other people’s lives after death.
Your questioning how Jesus can send people to hell when you weren’t on the cross being crucified. How Jesus endured separation from His father because of His Father being so holy couldn’t even look at Jesus because he bore our sins. I think this pain was actually worse than the crucifixion itself because it was the first time that Jesus and His Father was separated. When people reject Jesus as Savior you don’t think this invokes a burning anger from both Jesus Christ and the God the Father or are they both able to sweep it under the rug?

  2. Ok, but what if you didn't have a Bible to base your opinion on? What if you had to come to terms with what your relationship with God is without the influence of other people or the good book. You're right. People do base thoughts and opinions off of history and their current circumstances. What I'm trying to do is think beyond that. Strip religion, the church, and even the Bible at times, out of my view point. I'm tired of just going with the flow when it comes to this stuff. Everything that you just said is a common rebuttal that could be expected from any person who would consider themselves a christian, because, for the most part, they all think the same. Why is that? It may not be because it's right, and that's what I want you to think about. Push the limits of your perception of God.. Unchain him from conventional thinking and stop reducing him to lines written in a book and spoken by other people in pulpits who are no better than us (an assertion not necessarily directed at you).
The Bible was wrote by man. I'm not saying that it isn't important and that we can't learn from it's basic principles. What I'm saying is that there is a great likelihood that it could be completely irrelevant to our walk with God. I am trying to base my feelings on what I FEEL from God, not what others have told me to feel. Saying something is "divinely inspired" seems like an easy way to try to cover up the gaping loophole that is that anyone could have wrote it for any reason. Obviously, I know this isn't a popular opinion, and frankly, it doesn't matter to me. Like you said, everyone has conceived notions about this stuff that they learned from childhood. People chose to either accept it, or to think beyond it, period. No wrong or rights here, just opinions. Good talk my friend!

  3. Also, just to clarify I was speaking in general terms when I said "You" and "You're", not at you specifically. Not trying to get you upset lol.

  4. The problem is that you are using your own reasoning to try to get close to God. Entire religions have been formed out of such actions. You say you dont believe the Bible but you only use parts of the Bible you agree with. If you continue with this reasoning why would you even believe in Jesus Christ at all. That is based out of the Bible anyway. You base you beliefs off assumptions, but what if your assumptions are wrong. You believe in Satan so what to say that he is not influencing your assumptions. This is a Bible story so I dont know how much faith you have in it but when Jesus was tempted after fasting for 40 days and nights when the devil came to Him, He used Bible passages to fight the devil. Now your saying that the Bible is not important for spiritual growth.

  5. also about the Bible... The question the truth of the Bible, well I believe the Bible is inspired. Not only because it says it was but because the change in my life when I begin reading it. My anger and lust problem seem to dull the more I read. That is my Christianity based off of my reasoning but my reasoning is anchored by the Bible because I dont trust my own reasoning without it.
So if you question that the Bible is inspired, fine that's your belief. The only think I would suggest is that Christianity is based all around Jesus Christ. The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are personal accounts of the men who were around Jesus the most. Would it not be wise to get their accounts of the life of Jesus to understand more who Jesus is?

  6. Having a lack of faith and trust in yourself to find true meaning and wisdom in God is not a justifiable reason to use others as a crutch as a means to do so. Think about that. I don't use the Bible in bits and pieces, I use it as a reference point to communicate my topics to those who ONLY understand it to be the single way to understand God. People have been interpreting the Bible for years and years, and like you said, it has spawned different denominations and factions within Christianity. It's foolish and arrogant to say that one way has all of the answers, while others fall short. No one knows this, and can't. This is the single most reason why I feel you cannot lean on the church and the Bible for your relationship with God. You can use it to assist you if need be, and that's not an issue. You say I'm assuming things. Aren't you assuming the Bible is correct and the true word of God? Assuming is stating that something is or isn't without any justifiable proof. This goes both ways. Just because you feel that it has helped you through some bad things doesn't make it true or not, it just makes it helpful for you. That's OK, I'm just trying to point out the differences and similarities. I have a different view on Jesus, and maybe we can talk about that one day. Once we do, you maybe able to see what I'm trying to say here.
